Pandemonium brooke loose at Sydney Stadium last night when rock’n’roll shouter Little Richard stripped partly on the stage piano. (…) Little Richard’s strip act was the climax to a frantic, ear-deafening rock’n’roll concert which attracted 22,000 people in two shows.
(The Sydney Morning Herald)
In 1957 Little Richard decided to become an evangelist at the top of his popularity during his australian tour, being very confused by what was going on in the sky with sputniks. During his invitation at the Ampol Radio show in Sydney, he expresses his embarrasment but yet that does not prevent him to perform frantic renditions of Long Tall Sally and Lucille in which the sax player Grady Gaines gets loose and delivers a longer sax break ! Against all odds, the sixties saw the comeback of the Georgia Peach and his very first live appearance in Paris, France in june 1964. Backed by the famous duet Don & Dewey, Richard performed a wild and electric show without horns in which Dewey Terry brings out a great Johnny Guitar Watson style solo. PLAY THEM LOUD, LISTEN AND ENJOY !
